Sphere Press Ice Ball Maker — Aluminum, 2.4"

For the slow pour and the good glass. Hand-pressed 2.4-inch ice spheres in under a minute.

  • 2.4-inch ice ball diameter — larger surface-to-volume ratio slows melt rate vs. standard square cubes
  • 40–60 seconds per ball — no electricity, no waiting, just gravity and metal conductivity
  • Aerospace-grade aluminum construction — durable enough for repeated daily use
  • Non-slip surface coating — stays in place on wet bar counters or cutting boards
  • Internal grooved mold design — upper and lower halves lock tight for a perfectly round, seamless ball

Details

A press that shapes a rough cube into a clear 2.4-inch ice sphere in under a minute.

The slower-melting round shape keeps whiskey or a cocktail cold without watering it down. Machined from aerospace-grade aluminum with a non-slip base, it presses each ball in about 40 to 60 seconds.

Why we love it

  • Slower melt — a round sphere has less surface area than cubes, so your drink stays cold without watering down
  • Forty-to-sixty-second pour — gravity and chilled aluminum shape the ice while you set the glass
  • Grooved inner mold — locks the halves together for a tight, fully round finish
  • Aerospace-grade aluminum build — heavy enough to press cleanly, light enough to lift one-handed
  • Non-slip coated surface — steady grip on the counter, even with wet hands

Specs

  • Material: aerospace-grade aluminum
  • Finish: non-slip coating, silver
  • Ice ball diameter: 2.4 inches
  • Press time: 40-60 seconds per ball
  • Care: soak in warm water before reuse for faster pressing
  • Color: silver

Common questions

How long does one ice ball actually take?
About 40 to 60 seconds from a rough cube to a finished sphere. If you're pressing back-to-back, soak the mold in warm water between rounds so it doesn't stay frozen shut.

Do I need a special ice cube to start?
No — any cube larger than the sphere cavity works. The press trims it down to a clean 2.4-inch ball. Clearer starting ice gives a clearer finished sphere.

Will it scratch my bar or counter?
The base has a non-slip coating that protects most surfaces, but we'd still set it on a bar mat or folded towel if your counter is delicate stone or wood.

How to care for your piece

Care guide

How to care for your piece

  1. Chill the press first

    Chill the press first

Stash both aluminum halves in the freezer for at least 2 hours before your first use. A cold press shapes the sphere faster and clearer than a room-temp one.

  2. Prep an oversized cube

    Prep an oversized cube

Freeze a rough 2.5–2.75 inch cube of filtered water so it slightly overfills the cavity. Undersized cubes give you a lopsided ball with a flat spot on top.

  3. Press and wait

    Press and wait

Set the cube in the bottom half, place the top on, and let gravity do the work for 40–60 seconds on a towel to catch runoff. Do not force or twist — the aluminum melts a perfect sphere on its own.

  4. Rinse and dry fully

    Rinse and dry fully

Hand-wash both halves with warm water and mild soap, then towel-dry immediately. Never put aluminum in the dishwasher — detergent will oxidize and dull the finish.

  5. Store dry, press-ready

    Store dry, press-ready

Keep the two halves separated in a drawer so no moisture gets trapped between them. Toss the press back in the freezer 30 minutes before your next pour and it is ready to go.
